Dissonance: A Punk Rock Fairy Tale

"If magic were a pint of delicious draft beer, Dissonance would be the sticky residue the glass left behind, and unfortunately, my brain is the bar top."

Most people don’t believe in magic. That doesn’t stop it from noticing them. Thirty-year-old Amileena "Ami" Oleson couldn't ignore it if she tried.  Ami has the capacity to see magical Dissonance without losing her mind (at least not entirely). This ability, combined with a local's knowledge of the area has landed her back in her hometown of Haycamp, South Dakota.

If that's too intense, you probably need a drink at The Dive -- Ami does.

Ami must navigate an absurdist world through dive bar grit, poison mistresses and sugar nymphs, lost loves, living taxidermy, and too many Steves. Will she be able to see the bigger picture or get stuck in her own way? The fate of reality may depend on the answer, and the fate of her social life most certainly does.

Early Praise for Dissonance

  • "I finished your book Dissonance today. I liked it. Reading your book brought up a lot of memories of the Rail and the Blackhills, as well as the locals we all know and love/hate. I like the homage to those of us with neurodivergence adult ADHD. I want a signed physical copy down the road."

  • "I'm reading your book and it is f****** fabulous. I truly truly love it!

    —D.G.

  • "It's a really fun premise and you execute it with both humor and heart. "

    —M.D.

Discordance: A Punk Rock Parable

Summer ended with a bang. When a magical meteor falls to Earth, Ami’s reality (and her love life too) change course with the impact. The Black Hills become consumed by October chaos as locals can’t stop catching feelings and Faerie politicians bring interreality travel to a halt.

No longer a probationary employee, Agent Amileena Oleson must deal with the magical fallout that dropped on her town from the sky, and manage the exploding party vibes taking over her beloved dive bar scene.

Solving the magical mystery may lead to some icy consequences, and it’s not just Ami’s heart that risks being frozen.

Sometimes saving the ones you love can leave you behind.

Meet the Author

While this is a first foray into fiction, I am an experienced writer comfortable with many editing styles and deadlines, as seen in my Muck Rack profile of over 700 bylines. I have a Master’s of Science in Information Management which I have used to manage web and digital marketing for over 10 years, and I would apply my full marketing skill set to support this promotion of this work. The Dissonance world is written for the people who can stand in a crowded room and still feel lonely, who understand that belonging isn’t always fitting in, and for those that know that doing the right thing sometimes makes everything else go wrong. If you’ve ever wanted to sprinkle a little faerie dust on some dive bar duct tape, keep reading. Readers who love characters such as television’s Veronica Mars, Charlaine Harris’ Gunnie Rose or Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden will enjoy Amileena who’s neurodivergence is simply a less-understood ability that could save the world and ruin her social life.
